About Nicole

Hello! I’m Nicole Garner Meeker, an overly enthusiastic gardener and outdoor explorer. My day job as a writer includes a lot of researching, editing, and well… writing about history, food, and nature (sometimes I get lucky, and those things all come together in one piece).

I got my start in media working with small outlets in rural areas of the Midwest — where I was jokingly referred to as the “courts and corn” gal. Those beats helped me hone in on exactly what I like to do: dig for facts, plant big gardens (and write about them), and support others in telling their stories.

You can find out more about me, and the work I do over on my website.

About Outdoor Humans

I was raised as an “outside kid” in the Midwest — meaning I spent much of my time doing random kid stuff, but outside. Somehow that transformed into me becoming an “outside adult,” which consists of me spending as much time as I can out gardening, hiking, camping, and foraging for tiny woods snacks. I get that it’s not for everyone, but there is value to spending time in nature. Outdoor Humans is a little side project that lets me share with others the things I find and do outside that inspire me and bring me joy, with the hope that it encourages you to spend a few more minutes outside each day.

Little ways to connect with nature, all year long. A little bit of cottagecore and meditative appreciation for the world around us. Written by Nicole Garner Meeker — journalist and outdoor enthusiast who apparently puts off "woods witch" vibes.
